Myopia Study - Myopic Subjects Needed (age 18-30)

The aim of the study is to find out which aspects of the visual experience can promote eye growth and myopia development.

Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel – Myopia Research Group

Subjects: myopic young adults (18-30 years old) with a normal visual function (without previous eye injuries). Myopia between -1D and -6D, astigmatism not larger than 1D.

Goal of the project:

Procedure and duration of the study: Specially filtered movies will be shown to stimulate certain cell types in the retina which are assumed to affect the eye growth. The refraction error and axial length of the eyes will be measured before and after 15, 30 and 45 min of movie watching.

The measurements are purely optical, not painful and without cycloplegia (the eye is not touched). Three appointments are needed (in 3 separate days) always at the same time. One session lasts around 1 hour.

Reimbursement: CHF 20.-/hour

All information is treated confidentially. There is no medical benefit for the subjects.
